Range Rover could be planning the ultimate fashion accessory for its stylish new Evoque – a removable roof.
Company insiders have been busy telling the press that there is every chance that a convertible Evoque could be made to capitalise on the lucrative American market for large drop tops.
"A convertible Evoque wouldn't be the maddest brand extension. It isn't a totally crazy idea," a spokesperson told Auto Express. "All I can say is watch this space. We've got lots of ideas for the Evoque."
While an off roader with no roof might seem like a bonkers idea to anyone on these shores, there is a precedent in America, with the Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet (see below.) Any Range Rover version would likely have a folding fabric roof rather than a tin top, and would be based on the three door model.
We can only imagine what removing the roof would do to the widely praised ride and handling of the Range Rover Evoque (not to mention its styling), but we may find out as soon as 2014.
