Renault has smashed its own lap record for front-wheel drive cars at famous Nurburgring circuit in a Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.
The car set a time of 8mins 7.97 seconds, beating the Megane R26R's 2008 record for front-wheel drive production cars by nine seconds.
The lap was set by one of Renault's development drivers, Laurent Hurgon, and was done using a completely standard car shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE05a tyres.
"The Nordschleife is a legendary course. Its length and layout, which is very different to that of a conventional circuit, make it a unique and technically demanding challenge," said Hurgon.
He credited the car's "tuned Cup chassis, the dampers" and "the fade-resistant brakes" for his time.
The Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy also boasts a 15bhp boost over the standard Megane 250 Cup and will be limited to just 50 examples in the UK. It will cost from £27,820 when it goes on sale in July.
