Villa d'Este auction raises £20m

The words 'car auction' conjures up images of a draughty barn on the edge of town with local car dealers scratching their noses and glaring each other as they tussle over a low-mileage Mondeo.

But we imagine the sale at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este was a little more glamorous than that, with total proceeds raised reaching almost £20m (€23m).
