Following the launch of the MP4-12C, McLaren is said to be hard at work building a spiritual successor to the F1 which will outperform the current hypercar king, the Bugatti Veyron.
The so-called 'Mega Mac' will get an 800bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine and use much of the cutting-edge technology that the British firm perfected on the MP4-12C.
That means a modified ultra-light carbon fibre Monocell is expected to feature, along with the expanded use of active aerodynamics – including the previous model's distinctive air brake.
According to Autocar magazine, the track-focused machine's styling will be bigger and more aggressive than the MP4-12C and pay homage to the original F1.
It's likely to be just as exclusive as the former road-speed-record king too – production is expected to be limited to just 500 units and each will wear a price tag of up to £400,000.
In hypercar terms that could well be something of a bargain when you consider the performance figures McLaren is predicting.
With a 0-60mph time of under 3 seconds, 0-100mph in 5.5 seconds and, incredibly, 0-200mph in just 20 seconds (a full 8 seconds quicker than the F1 and 2 seconds better than a Veyron), the Mega Mac should be well placed to eclipse pricier opposition.
