The Fiat/Lancia/Chrysler cross-pollination – or inbreeding, if you will – begins here, with a lightly reskinned version of the Dodge Journey.
The Fiat Freemont is the first new car to emerge from the partnership, a seven-seat MPV based on the facelifted Journey shown at the LA motor show in November.
There are mostly only cosmetic changes to the car – the grille, bumper and taillights have been amended, but there will be a range of Fiat engines available that are more suited to European tastes.
Fiat's 2.0-litre diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune, producing 138bhp and 168bhp and two-wheel-drive. A bigger four-wheel-drive diesel and a 3.6-litre V6 petrol (which we imagine will be very popular on the suburban school run) will follow soon.
The Freemont will go on sale in Europe this year, but Fiat has yet to confirm the car for the UK.
