Koenigsegg looks to challenge the Veyron's crown

Extravagant Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg is set to go toe-to-toe with Bugatti by unveiling an 1100bhp new car at the Geneva motor show that will set customers back a snifter over a million pounds.

The Agera R fails to top the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport's 1183bhp but does come out an impressive 25 percent lighter than the Volkswagen Group's behemoth.

The new hypercar is based on the Agera model revealed at last year's Geneva motor show, but with £132,000 of extra brilliance and could topple the Super Sport as the world's fastest production car.

The inevitably colossal performance will come courtesy of a turbocharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with power sent to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Koenigsegg hasn't released any performance figures for the new car, but more details will surely emerge thick and fast as the Geneva show kicks off tomorrow.
