Renault has unveiled a rally version of the Renaultsport Megane aimed at privateers looking to compete at tarmac events.
Dubbed the Megane RS N4, the upgraded car features the same turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, but with its power boosted to 266bhp and 374lb ft of torque compared to the standard car's 247bhp and 251lb ft.
Renault has mated the N4's improved performance to the Cup chassis, bigger brakes and a standard limited slip differential. There's also a firmer suspension set up courtesy of a collaboration between the French manufacturer and Swedish specialist, Ohlins.
Inside the Group N spec car gets a roll cage and Sabelt racing seats. The N4's stripped out character and beefier output are likely to be reflected in a hardcore version of the Megane road car that Renault are believed to be developing.
For now the RS N4 will complete the manufacturer's rally car range which already includes the Twingo R1, R2 and various variants of the Clio R3.
