Video: Driver survives airborne 100mph smash

Updated

We tend to shy away from posting videos of very serious car crashes on Autoblog – but this airborne 100mph smash in the States caught our eye as despite the colossal high speed impact, the driver survived.

Brendan Eden, 19, veered off the highway in Ohio, hit the guard rail in the middle of the road and took off before smashing into a bridge where his 1995 Pontiac Firebird broke into three pieces. He was thrown from the wreckage.

The in-car camera of the police car Eden shot past captured the whole thing. He remains in a critical condition, but as the policeman driving alongside him said: "He is very lucky to still be alive at this point."
