Shelby SuperCars teases its challenger to world's quickest car title

Updated:

Shelby SuperCars has released a teaser image of its forthcoming challenger to the title of world's fastest production car.

The new model is set to be unveiled next month, but the American manufacturer has posted a preview image on its website along with the tagline 'because life begins at 250'.

SSC's Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007 with a speed of 256mph, but Bugatti reclaimed the crown this year when it clocked 267mph in its heavily modified Veyron Super Sport.

Determined to once again eclipse its European rival, SSC has promised to up the ante on all fronts with the new car, which is the work of designer Jason Castriota, the man responsible for the Ferrari 599 and the Maserati GranTurismo.

It's thought the manufacturer will build just 12 examples of the supercar, with the price expected to tip the scales at just over £500,000.
