Spyker to buy Saab?

Updated

After Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg pulled out of a deal to buy Saab from General Motors, another low volume sports car maker has emerged as favourites to take on the ailing brand.

Spyker - whose most recent model is the 400bhp C8 Aileron coupe - is now GM's preferred buyer for family saloon car maker Saab, according to a Swedish news agency.

The Dutch company has reportedly said it will keep production in Sweden and already has experience of building cars on a small-scale, making it an ideal candidate to take on Saab in the eyes of GM bosses.

"Everything is on track, the signals are there," is all a Saab insider would say. GM has said it will close Saab down next year if a buyer can't be found.
