Wacky Races: Cartoon cars brought to life

Updated

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a motorsport event that has been staged in the grounds of Goodwood House near Chichester (West Sussex) since 1993. This year's festival will be held during the weekend of 3rd to 5th July. Organiser of the event is motorsport superfan Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara (Lord March to his pals). The Festival is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. Each year sees the popular return of the cars from the Wacky Races, a cartoon series that was broadcast on the American TV channel CBS between 1968 and 1970. Seventeen episodes were produced, each of which featured two races, so viewers got to see 34 of these in all. Wacky Races tells the story of eleven different cars or drivers who compete against each other on a variety of circuits for the title of the World's Wackiest Racer. In the gallery below, you can see some of these lovingly recreated models.
