Green light for the BMW Z2

Updated

BMW are planning a series of affordable models by way of a 'green' challenge to the Smart and the Audi A1. The Munich-based manufacturer is to call its new pin-up with dynamic handling properties the Z2. Planned as both a roadster and a coupé, the two-seater is designated 'Project i' and comes close to the magic weight of 1,000 kilos. Three alternative powertrains are planned for the Z2: an electric motor with lithium-ion batteries, a hybrid drive with range extender and a 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine.
