Bunny Nails Impressive Jump and People Are in Awe

We all know that rabbits can hop and jump high, but this bunny's jump is incredible! Winnie the Wunder Bun posted a video in mid-April that I've watched at least 10 times...it's one of those things that you have to see to believe. The video is only 6 seconds long, but you'll definitely want to watch it more than once.

As the video begins, we see Winnie sitting on the floor in the bedroom. He decides he wants to hop up on the bed and takes a step towards it. What happens next will make your jaw drop!

Can you believe it?! He didn't even get a running start - he just jumped straight up onto the bed. Watchers had a lot to say about Winnie's hop and left almost 2 thousand comments about it. @Woolfonmynoggin was so surprised, "I just yelled. I didn’t know they could jump so far!" and @Jennie added, "Needs the Nintendo jump sound!" @Jello pointed out, "Bro teleported." @Amanda shared, "My bun is too lazy for that she will sit there and thump until I pick her up lmao!"

Jumping Bunny Facts

Commenter @lunar shared, "Whaaaat?! I was never told rabbits can jump high and I had rabbits my whole childhood!" We have a pet bunny named Jack that looks just like Winnie, and I've never seen him jump like that!

Rabbits love to hop and jump. They do it when they are happy, to get where they want to be, when they get the zoomies, and they even jump over each other for a number of reasons. I wondered just how high they can jump, so I headed to Vet Explains Pets and learned, "A rabbit’s hind legs have extremely strong leg muscles that help the bunny push off and leap, both vertically and horizontally. The average rabbit can jump around 2 feet high. This is a HUGE vertical leap when comparing their body size with that distance!" Of course, larger, wild rabbits like hares can jump even higher because of their size.

Vet Explains Pets also shared this fun fact, "The official world record for the rabbit high jump was set in June 1997 in Denmark by a rabbit called Mimreslunds Tösen, owned by Tyne Bygom. The black and white bunny jumped a recorded 39.2 inches", that's more than 3 feet in the air!

Since we know they can hop and jump so high, I also wondered how fast they can run and was surprised to learn that domesticated rabbits can run 25 to 35 MPH, while wild rabbits can run "25 to 45 miles per hour. That’s quicker than the fastest human in the world, Usain Bolt, who holds the record at 27 miles per hour. On top of being fast, rabbits can also accelerate very quickly and make turns without losing momentum." I had no idea that bunnies could jump like that, run that fast, or were that agile. You learn something new every day!
