New build home has bus stop blocking front door

A new build home “with excellent transport links” has gone on the market with a bus stop blocking the front door.

A 10ft-high pole – complete with timetable and sign – was erected in the middle of the path of the property in Stapenhill, Burton, Staffordshire.

The three-storey modern terraced house on Main Street is for sale with John German estate agents for £174,950.

But the "excellent transport links" might cause problems for whoever buys the property which comes with a garden and parking space.

Prospective buyer Jane Evans, 23, said: “I’m renting with my boyfriend at the moment and we’re desperate to buy our first home together.

“I saw this house go up for sale and told my boyfriend it was perfect all except for the bus stop in the middle of the path.

“He thought I was joking until he saw it for himself. He actually gets the bus to work so I told him he had no excuse for being late.

“The house particulars even said it had excellent transport links. I suppose that’s bang on.

“It is daft though, if we had kids I’d have to leave the pushchair on the pavement.”

Social media also saw the funny side of the bus stop being placed in front of the home.

One user joked: "Typical, you wait ages for a new housing development and then this comes along...."

Another added: “Brains? Planning? Communication? Waste of money.”

The bus stop is for passengers using the number 2, 21, 21E and 22 Burton service which runs every day between 7am and 6pm.

Bus firm Midland Classic said the sign was put on the path before the new houses were built.

Staffordshire County Council confirmed the developer was being approached to "relocate the bus stop as soon as possible”.
