Baby Kangaroo Meets a Bearded Dragon and Her Reaction Is the Best

When it comes to baby animals, watching them learn and explore the world around them always makes me happy. Their reactions to things are sometimes funny, cute, or even fearful, but they always make me smile. Located in Alice Springs, Australia, The Kangaroo Sanctuary is home to many orphaned joeys being raised by the humans that care for them. They shared a video at the end of March showing one of their baby kangaroos being introduced to a bearded dragon, and they whole thing is too cute!

The joey's name is Euro Stella, and she's clearly very curious about the weird looking animal standing in front of her, a bearded dragon named Emily. Euro tentatively approaches Emily and sniffs her out. Watch until the end to see what happens next!

The baby kangaroo's fast and furious hop backwards and away from the unfazed bearded dragon was adorable! The Kangaroo Sanctuary said in their caption, "And yes, kangaroos can hop backwards!" @chaoticcrhapsody pointed out, "Her shaking her head after almost like she’s embarrassed at herself LOL!" and @Bossy Boy added, "Jump Scare!" @TwitchyTitchy made me laugh with, "Kangaroos are so adorable because they kind of look like they’ve been assembled wrong!"

Interesting Facts About Joeys

I love learning about baby animals, and I'm always looking to learn more about them. A-Z Animals shared some fun facts about joeys that I found interesting. At birth, joeys are only the size of a lima bean, and won't leave their mother's pouch for months. When born they don't even resemble a kangaroo...or really any animal...since they are so tiny. Surprisingly, they are also born potty trained...kinda, "Baby kangaroos can’t go to the bathroom unless their mom licks them to give them the sensation to go. Although this sounds less than appealing, the babies only produce at most a drop or two of waste at a time on account of how tiny they are."

Joeys live in mom's pouch until it's about a year old. Occasionally they will pop their heads out for a look around and to see what's going on in the world. When they are several months old, they begin to venture out for short periods of time, eventually even touching the ground and learning to hop. And even when they no longer 'live' in mom's pouch, they continue to nurse from mom until they are over a year old. As they get older and more independent, they drink less milk and start to eat more plants.

I wonder if Euro Stella and Emily will ever become friends. Emily didn't seem at all bothered by the hopping baby, but the joey definitely wasn't sure about the lizard! I hope the park continues to share videos of these two, and I hope one day they'll become friends!
