Amanda Holden has revealed an unusual secret about her marriage.

The presenter shared on her Heart Breakfast show on Wednesday that whenever her husband Chris Hughes is away on business she redecorates their home without his knowledge.

The 51-year-old spilled the beans to DJ Jason King, who was standing in for her co-host Jamie Theakston, in a segment King dubbed "couple's therapy".

Holden explained: "I’ve redecorated the house when Chris went on business trips, I ripped out a bathroom, I’ve put new tiles on the wall, because he says no to everything, because he doesn’t want the agro of it.'

King then responded: "It's his own fault!" To which Amanda replied: "Exactly! And then he comes home and he’ll go 'I have to say Mandy, you’ve done a great job it looks great.'"

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, who raises daughters Lexi, 16 and Hollie, 10 with Hughes also revealed that she hides her penchant for elaborate shopping sprees from her husband.

"[Yesterday] I literally bought a load of stuff I don’t need, got in, could see my husband’s car was still in and was like 'what’s he still doing here, he should be at the office?', and then I could hear him he was on a Zoom call.

"He was speaking to someone important and I snuck up the stairs and I hid all my bags in the back of the wardrobe!

"I don’t know why I do it. It’s my credit card, it’s my money. But I think it’s part of the thrill of the shop. It’s like trying to hide it away from him."

The pair celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary last year and just ahead of it, Holden shared the secret of their long marriage to the record producer.

On the longevity of their marriage, Holden told the Mirror in November: "He challenges me and I challenge him, and I think that's the secret to a good marriage.

"My husband - god, we are different people but he is my biggest, proudest champion. He's not a yes man, but he is 'Go Mandy' all the time.

"He's a proper bloke who looks after me. I'm a strong, opinionated woman, but he helps steer the Mandy ship."

The couple, who recently celebrated Holden's birthday at a luxury secret location, met in Los Angeles back in 2003, and started dating a year later.

They tied the knot in December 2008, with their nearly two-year-old daughter Lexi in attendance.
