If you're having a stressful day or just need a moment of Zen, this video that Just Flint is Fine shared on Saturday, April 20th is it! Though it's only 7 seconds long, it's the most satisfying thing you'll see on the internet today. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I've watched it at least 5 times already!

The video shows us Flint's three dogs sitting in a row. It looks like they are all waiting for their paw-rent to hand out treats. Watch their tails as they wag - after just a second or two they somehow all start wagging in sync!

I want to put Flint's video on loop and the song Flint used to accompany the video fit perfectly, too! What Flint says in the caption sums it up perfectly, "The brief, shimmering feeling of true symmetrical connection". @Sam agreed and said, "Cutest little tail dance ever!" Another commenter said exactly what I was thinking, "This is so mesmerizing." It totally relaxed me the first time I watched it!

Why Dogs Wag Their Tails

Most of us think dogs wag their tails when they are happy or when they are excited about something, like greeting a friend or waiting anxiously for a treat. But a study completed at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in the Netherlands suggests that tail wagging happens for a different and very interesting reason. According to Silvia Leonetti, an author of the study, "Dogs wag their tails because humans consciously or unconsciously selected for tail wagging during the domestication process because we are very attracted to rhythmic stimuli.”

It's an interesting thought, and one that I can get behind (no pun intended) since my initial reaction to this video was that it was satisfying to watch.

One thing for certain is that dogs do use their tails to communicate. Their tail's positioning and movements can help them convey their emotions, much like their ears and mouths do. Another Pet Helpful article explains more about tail wagging, "dogs may also wag their tails when they are nervous, insecure, aroused and even ready to attack. It's just like the human smile. You can't assume all human smiles are signs of happiness; after all, we have all seen in movies when a serial killer gives a wide-toothed smile before committing a crime or a nervous person's smile when reacting to stress." This makes so much sense!

Our dogs wag their tails when they are happy or maybe because they know humans appreciate rhythmic gestures, but they also wag to convey their emotions. Whether it's a gentle sway like the pooches in this video or frantic tail wags, watching dogs wag their tails is absolutely adorable.
