Snow blankets sand in the Sahara desert

Remarkable footage has captured a rare sight in one of the world's hottest places - snow in the Sahara desert.

According to The Independent, this is only the fourth time that the town of Ain Sefra in Algeria has experienced snow in the past 42 years.

The footage shows a light dusting of snow sitting upon dunes, creating unusual patterns that stretch off into the distance.
