Sir Keir Starmer responds to Jeremy Clarkson jibe

Sir Keir Starmer stopped short of saying he'd change his hairstyle to secure Jeremy Clarkson's vote when he made an appearance on LBC.

Clarkson recently expressed his dismay with the current government and said he might actually consider voting Labour if Starmer was to do something about his "Lego hair".

Asked about the motoring presenter's comments Sir Keir said: "I'm very pleased to have the votes of as many people as possible... whether I've got to change my hairstyle for every single vote we'll have to wait and see.

"I'm very pleased that people are beginning to notice that the Labour party has changed and that's good."

In other news, Starmer said the UK's social care system "needs a huge amount of work" and has been "broken for a long time".

The Labour leader made the comments after he joined a nationwide clap to mark the NHS's 72nd birthday.

He told the PA news agency that the care sector "has been fractured".

"It's been underfunded, I think the staff have been undervalued and underpaid, and the Prime Minister needs to take responsibility.

"The Conservative Government has been in power for 10 years and therefore they've had time to start doing something about social care – they haven't done it."
