Mythical lyrebird sounds as if it's shooting lasers

This extraordinary footage captures the stunning 'laser' sounds created by a male lyrebird.

The 'lasers' are the first part of a four-section repeating sequence that sees the male lyrebird stand on a mound he has found or creates. He then performs a complex set of songs while dancing in order to attract a mate.

The superb lyrebird is also famous for its ability to mimic almost any sound, picking up sounds and songs from its parents, other birds, or, if in captivity, they can end up copying saws, hammers and even cameras - as seen in the clip with David Attenborough below:
