Manufacturers updating car buying process for lockdown life

Manufacturers are adapting to life under lockdown by introducing new car buying schemes and offers to encourage buyers back to a hard hit industry.

Mitsubishi today announced free delivery of a new vehicle and collection of a trade-in vehicle, saving £100, as well as a new reservation fee of £99, down from £350.

These offers are valid until June 30th on all Mitsubishi vehicles, which can be bought through the company’s Buy Online process.

Meanwhile, Renault has introduced a new online stock reservation feature, which allows customers to search through existing stock and reserve a vehicle through the Renault UK website. They will then be contacted by their chosen dealer to complete the purchase.

Adam Wood, marketing director at Groupe Renault UK, said: “The Online Stock Reservation feature is a new addition to our comprehensive set of digital tools and helps buyers get the car they want without the need to physically visit a Renault retailer.

“In combination with our other services, being able to reserve exactly what you want and complete the purchase with your local dealer from home maintains the relationship between retailers and customers in these challenging times, while providing the reassurance that you can still get the new car you want without a long wait.”

Swedish car maker Volvo has expanded its online buying process in the UK, adding a live chat function and the option of contactless home delivery. It is also extending warranties by three months for those who can’t get their vehicle serviced during lockdown.
