'It's not a holiday, it's a lockdown': London police officers order sunbathers to go home

Police in the UK are continuing to urge people to stay at home, unless on an essential trip, as the country comes to grips with the nationwide lockdown ordered by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

There has been some confusion among the public as to how much they are allowed outside their homes and under what circumstances, as demonstrated by this footage from west London.

The Metropolitan Police's Shepherd's Bush Green Twitter account shared the clip on Tuesday, March 24, showing officers using a loudspeaker to order people sitting on the green to go home.

An officer is heard declaring: "Guys, you can't stay on the green. Can you all go home? It's not a holiday, it's a lockdown – which means you don't just come here and sunbathe ... go home."
