Jeremy Clarkson has ended up "marooned on a tropical island" alongside his The Grand Tour co-stars Richard Hammond and James May while filming the series, he has claimed.

Taking to Twitter to share their plight, Clarkson said the trio had flown separately to the crew and ended up "on the wrong island" when the plane broke.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host wrote: "Only May, Hammond and I could do this: end up 500 miles away from the entire crew, on the wrong island.

"We elected to fly on the cargo plane with the kit and it broke. Now we’re marooned on a tropical island with nothing but a car and wine."

However, it didn't look as though they were in such a bad position as Clarkson posted a picture of May with a collection of beer bottles in front of him.

"May is going through the rations too fast. We may not survive," Clarkson jested before sharing a photo of May and Hammond enjoying some drinks beside a pool.

They also seized the opportunity to make an intro to a pretend episode of the series as Hammond began: "Hello welcome to the Grand Tour special."

"Which is coming to you from Jeremy Clarkson's iPhone," May continued.

But Clarkson interjected off-camera: "Yes I'm really sorry, the battery's gone, battery's gone."

The Grand Tour team have been in scarier predicaments, however, as Clarkson revealed earlier in the year that May had to be rescued by crew from monsoon waves when they were filming in Vietnam.
