Man arrested after firearms officer is mown down by car

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police firearms officer was mown down by a car in Tottenham.

The man, who was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, has been taken into custody at a north London police station.

Four males, two aged 17, one aged 18 and one aged 19 have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A woman, aged 23, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

They are all in custody at police stations across London.

The arrests follow an incident in Tottenham on Tuesday when officers conducted an intelligence-led armed stop of a vehicle.

The vehicle stopped for police, but then drove off at speed, colliding with the officer.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and he has since been discharged.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley said: “This was an extremely serious incident whereby the safety of the public, as well as the life of the police officer, was endangered.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this disturbing event.”
