Evacuation of 115 under way on North Sea platform

More than 100 workers are being evacuated from a North Sea platform as a precaution.

EnQuest said it “proactively initiated emergency response procedures” at the Thistle Platform on Monday evening.

The coastguard said that a coastguard helicopter and two rescue aircraft from the Norwegian off shore sector have been transferring 115 personnel to other platforms in the area.

The Thistle Platform is located around 125 miles north east of Shetland.

Coastguards said they were made aware of the incident at around 6.30pm on Monday.

EnQuest would not comment on the nature of the incident.

A spokeswoman said: “EnQuest can confirm it has proactively initiated emergency response procedures at the Thistle Platform as a precautionary measure.”

She added: “Further information will be released as soon as it becomes available.”
