Woman creates reclining 'Jacob Leeks-Mogg' out of garden vegetables
A woman has won second prize at a vegetable growing contest by crafting a striking sculpture of Conservative politician Jacob Rees-Mogg from a bunch of leeks.
Hester Feld, 44, recreated Mr Rees-Mogg’s controversial reclining pose for the Newent Onion Fayre on Saturday.
Her creation, entitled “Jacob Leeks Mogg”, paid homage to the moment the Leader of the House of Commons decided to recline across a House of Commons bench during a recent Brexit debate.
The pose was branded “contemptuous” by opposition politicians and sparked an angry backlash on social media, where it quickly became a meme.
Feld used leeks to make the Jacob Rees-Mogg figure, and created the bench using the outer layer of spring onions, pinned in place around a flower-arranging block with dress pins.
She explained: “There’s so much depressing news around at the moment, I just wanted to give people a giggle.

“I do it to make people smile. I’ve loved the glory of reading people’s comments about it on social media. It’s so lovely to have such a small town talking about it.”
Ms Feld said she only came up with the idea for the vegetable character on Friday night – the day before the Onion Fayre – and within a couple of hours she had completed it.
And, as well as her blue rosette, she was presented with a Crunchie chocolate bar as a second-place prize.
She added: “I’ve entered the show every year for about five years now. I love doing it. I’m not going to stop.
“We’ve got quite a few rosettes around the house now, because my three children used to get involved in the children’s categories when they were a bit younger.”
The winner in the “Over-17s Vegetable Character” category was a bra made from cloves of garlic, called “Fennel von Garlic”.
