With their own charity to establish and a South Africa royal tour on the cards, it’s understandable Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are keen to have the best people in their team.

So it’s unsurprising their latest appointment is a former high-flying diplomat and self-described “wannabe supermum” who has an interest in women’s rights.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reported by the Mail On Sunday to have made Fiona Mcilwham, 45, their new private secretary.

She was formerly one of the youngest British ambassadors when she was posted to Albania in 2009.

Her new role is considered the most important in ‘Team Sussex’.

She will be in charge of coordinating Harry, 34, and Meghan’s official programme, managing correspondence and supervising fellow staff members.

In her Twitter bio, Mcilwham - who previously worked for the Foreign Office - describes herself as a “diplomat and wannabe supermum” and regularly supports initiative that empower women on social media.

A palace source revealed that the Duke and Duchess had been looking for a new joint private secretary who had experience working in a royal household, but had been won over by her credentials.

Mcilwham was reported by the Daily Mail in 2016 to be the partner of Daniel Korksi, a former special adviser to David Cameron when he was Prime Minister.

Her appointment comes after the departure of the Queen’s former aide Samantha Cohen, who had temporarily held the post.

Harry and Meghan, 38, were reported last month to have hired a third nanny for three-month-old baby son Archie.

A source told The Sun: “Harry and Meghan do not want to rush this or take any risks getting this decision right.

“It’s deeply personal and can depend on the needs of the baby and parents.”
