Prices and specifications announced for new Peugeot 208 and e-208

Peugeot has revealed prices and specifications for its upcoming 208 and e-208 models, ahead of customer deliveries early next year.

The regular 208 starts from £16,250, with the all-electric e-208 version priced from £25,050 after the £3,500 plug-in car grant has been deducted.

Both powertrains are available in one of three trims, while the e-208 can also be specified in the range-topping GT specification.

Standard equipment is generous, with all cars receiving a multifunction steering wheel, head-up display and either a seven- or 10-inch colour touchscreen according to trim.

It’s the first car in Peugeot’s new offensive of allowing the customer to choose from a variety of different powertrains on the same car. It’s why the 208 is available with a petrol, diesel or all-electric option.

David Peel, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: “The all-new Peugeot 208 represents the first step in Peugeot’s vision of providing our customers with the ‘power of choice’ i.e. ‘choose your Peugeot, choose your powertrain.’ With class-leading levels of technology, sharp styling and a distinctive driving experience, we expect the all-new 208 and the all-new e-208 to challenge the norm in this sector of the market.”

The e-208 is the firm’s latest all-electric car, and uses a 50kWh battery with a 136bhp electric motor. According to Peugeot, it should be able to travel up to 211 miles between charges, based on WLTP testing processes. It supports 100kWh rapid charging, which can replenish the car’s batteries from 0-80 per cent in just 30 minutes. When using a 7kW charger, a full charge will take 7.5 hours.

It’ll also come with a ‘charging pass’ which will allow owners to access certain UK public charging points through a free subscription – though just for an introductory period.

The regular 208, meanwhile, can be specified with either 1.2-litre petrol engine in one of three states of tune, as well as a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. There’s also the choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox.
