Victoria's Secret makes history by hiring first transgender model

Victoria's Secret has made history by hiring its first openly transgender model, according to reports.

Valentina Sampaio, 22, is the model behind the groundbreaking news.

While the lingerie brand has yet to confirm her hiring, Sampaio's agent confirmed to CNN that she's been hired for a company campaign to be released later this month. Sampaio also posted a video behind-the-scenes of the reported shoot, which includes #vspink as one of its hashtags as well as comments from former Angel Lily Aldridge.

Current angel Lais Ribiero also tweeted her congratulations to Sampaio, who has modelled for a myriad of high fashion designers including Philipp Plein, Moschino, Jeremy Scott and Givenchy.

The news comes amid rebranding rumours - Shanina Shaik said the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is cancelled - and months after L Brands chief marketing officer Ed Razek's very controversial comments on Victoria's Secret inclusivity.

"Shouldn't you have transsexuals in the show?" Razek said in an interview with Vogue in November. "No. No, I don't think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It's a 42-minute entertainment special. That's what it is."
