Meghan and Harry’s new foundation name is being compared to a potato

The name of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new foundation has been revealed.

Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, officially separated from their joint organisation (The Royal Foundation) with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last month.

The couple’s new charity name will be Sussex Royal, which was registered with Companies House on July 1, but has only just become public knowledge.

It lists its four directors: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their head of communications Sara Latham and the Royal Foundation’s former director Natalie Campbell.

According to The Sun, some royal insiders are said to be “shocked” by the name choice and have “likened it to the Jersey Royal potato”.

A royal source told the newspaper : “The new name is all about Harry and Meghan building their brand and doing it their way.

“But the name is a little surprising as we were expecting something a bit more traditional”.

However, given that Meghan and Harry’s Instagram account is called @SussexRoyal, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The couple’s first project will reportedly focus on the conservation and protection of lions, and will be announced before their tour of Africa this autumn.

The duke and duchess attended The Lion King premiere in London last weekend, which was held in support of Harry’s conservation and communities work.

Since The Lion King was first released 25 years ago, half of Africa’s lions have disappeared. Lions face rising threats, such as poaching, loss of prey and destruction of habitats.

However, research shows the lion population can recover.

Meghan is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to baby Archie in May, but she has attended engagements such as Trooping the Colour, Wimbledon and Harry and William’s polo match. She will celebrate her 38th birthday on August 4.

It’s not known when the new mum will ‘officially’ return to work, but it’s rumoured she will attend the One Young World summit in London in October. However, considering Meghan’s already been out and about a number of times since Archie’s arrival, we’ll likely see her again before that.

In fact, Harry and Meghan’s Africa tour could well happen before October.

Harry currently has no engagements scheduled for the foreseeable future, but it’s likely that he, Meghan and Archie will spend some time with the Queen at her Balmoral estate in Scotland this summer.
