Strange creature washes ashore In Australia

Residents in the south east of Victoria, Australia have made an unusual discovery on their local beach.

Posted on the Facebook page Cosy Seaside Escape the photos show a strange creature which apparently "came out to sunbake" at Golden Beach in the Gippsland region.

The creature in question was a cat shark. a species of shark that is typically found on the ocean floor and eats small fish and despite their odd features they do not pose a threat to humans. Some catsharks also have the ability to glow bright green in the dark to send messages to other catsharks. According to an article Scientific Reports, the chain catshark and swell catshark, can absorb the ocean's blue light and re-emit it.

Facebook users described the find "amazing" and "incredible—nature at its best," but other raised concerns over why this catshark showed up on the shore in the first place.

"I'm not sure if this is a good thing.. someone else spotted another one of these beached only a couple of weeks ago," someone wrote below the post. "What's going on in the deep sea that they are surfacing?"
