Inside the old aircraft which has been converted into the ultimate man cave

As a child growing up in Texas, Joe Axline wanted to live in an airplane.

Fast forward nearly 40 years and the divorced dad fulfilled his "crazy" dream - dubbed 'Project Freedom' - creating a unique property in the process.

Axline was inspired to set up home in the plane by the 1970s TV show The Magician, in which the crime-solving title character would drive his car into the back of an aircraft and fly onto the next city where his help was needed.

And in 2011, his fantasy became a reality when he bought an old MD80 jetliner and kitted it out as the ultimate man cave.

The property, in Brookshire, Texas, has a spacious living room, a dining room and three bedrooms plus all the original plane fixtures, including overhead luggage compartments and, of course, the cockpit.

Axline said: "Living in here is identical to living in a regular house except for one thing - it's an airplane.

"I get a lot of people visit and it's always fun.

"A lot of people said 'hey, Joe, that's kind of crazy' and I said 'yeah, it is but it's what I want to do'."
