Why the Queen Reportedly Won't Attend Baby Archie's Christening

From Harper's BAZAAR

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have apparently picked a date for baby Archie's christening, according to The Sunday Times.

  • Meghan and Harry welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019.

  • According to royal correspondent, Roya Nikkhah, there will be many royal guests at the christening, but it's believed that the queen will miss the event.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son, Archie Harrison, already has a seriously busy schedule.

To celebrate Prince Harry's first Father's Day, the royals shared the very first close-up photo of baby Archie on Instagram. At the same time, news of Archie's royal christening broke, with The Sunday Times reporting that Meghan and Harry are planning to hold the special event in early July.

But according to royal correspondent for The Sunday Times, Roya Nikkhah, there's one important family member who won't be present at the festivities, and that's Queen Elizabeth. Nikkhah explained, "The Queen will miss the christening because of prior commitments. She attended the christenings of Prince George and Princess Charlotte but missed Prince Louis’s baptism last year."

Royal fans will recall that Queen Elizabeth also didn't attend great-grandson Prince Louis's christening in July 2018. At the time, Daily Mail royal correspondent, Rebecca English, tweeted, "The Queen & Philip have just spent the weekend together in Norfolk. He is remaining there while she travels back to London today. Her decision not to attend was mutually agreed with William & Kate..."

Nikkhah notes that Queen Elizabeth did, however, "attend the christening of her seventh great-grandchild-Lena Tindall, the second daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall-in March."

Despite reportedly not being able to attend Archie Harrison's christening, it's clear that the queen is quite enamored with her newest great-grandchild:
