But, it was one caller's reaction that left him shacking with laughter. The former foreign secretary won a big lead in the first round of the Tory leadership ballot on Thursday, and is now the favourite to succeed Theresa May.

However, the thought of Mr Johnson, who is often lampooned for his behaviour, has left many MPs and voters fearful of the consequences of a Johnson premiership.
