Sharon Horgan reveals alternate ending to 'Catastrophe'

Sharon Horgan has revealed what she thinks happened next at the end of Catastrophe.

The hit Channel 4 comedy ended its fourth and final series on a cliffhanger earlier this year, with married couple Sharon and Rob Norris leaving their children asleep in the car while they swam out into an ocean full of dangerous rip currents.

Horgan, 48, admitted she had her own clear idea of the fate of her character: “Rob [Delaney] and I both had differing views about how it ended in our heads.

Mine’s the optimistic one. They have a really hard time, but they get to the shore, the kids are fine.

“I think Rob’s was not as happy an ending.”

Delaney has previously said: “Why couldn’t [the kids] also die? Couldn’t the emergency brakes malfunction? Did you see us roll down the windows? We want the pessimists to be comforted in knowing that everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and that they’re going to have to stagger the funerals.”

Horgan - who co-founded her own female-led production company Merman in 2014 - is currently working on the second series of BBC comedy Motherland which stars Anna Maxwell Martin as a stressed working mother.

Horgan, who co-writes the show, revealed the new series would see the introduction of new characters in a bid to improve diversity in the show.

She revealed at the Variety European TV Summit in London: “We’ve managed to make it a less completely white show thank God, because that was embarrassing.”

The actress said viewers could expect to see the new series airing in the autumn.
