Boris Johnson says he hung up on Trump because he thought it was a prank

Boris Johnson has admitted to hanging up when President Trump tried to call it the Tory leadership candidate.

The former Foreign Secretary explained to the Sunday Times that he thought it was a joke saying: "The person had a mild Irish accent and said, 'This is the No 10 switchboard, we have got the president of the United States for you. I am just going to patch you through to the White House situation room.'"

Boris then dialled No 10 back to find out it was not indeed a prank, and the US President really was trying to call him to chat.
