According to Chelsey Amer, a registered dietitian nutritionist with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a slice of pizza will hold you over better than the classic morning meal.
The nutritionist, who holds a Masters in clinical nutrition from New York University, says its due to the large amount of sugar found in many cereals.
Pizza may have more fat, but it has less sugar.
Thus, Amer tells 'The Daily Meal,' you'll have a better chance of avoiding a "sugar crash" later on.
You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories.
Amer, who is based in New York, adds that pizza also has more protein. This means one's appetite will be more satisfied and you'll be more likely to avoid snacking during the rest of the morning.
While she mentioned that pizza isn't a health food per say; it's certainly not your most nutritious option. But when compared with a quickly poured bowl of sugary flakes, it's a more balanced meal.
"Plus, a slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash," Amer confirmed.
