Playboy cover girl Ashley Massaro dead at 39

A former WWE star who competed on Survivor has died at 39 years old.

Ashley Massaro was transported from her New York home to a nearby hospital on Thursday, passing away hours later in the morning, TMZ reports.

Massaro competed on Survivor: China in 2007 and was voted off in the season's second episode. Two years earlier, she had won the WWE's Raw Diva Search.

The WWE confirmed her death, posting on its website, "We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro. She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley's family and friends."

Authorities have not released a cause of death, but it is reportedly classified as "non-criminal."

Massaro was active on social media one day before her death, tweeting a photo on Wednesday of fan mail. "Just answered a ton of fan mail so you guys should be receiving them soon!" she wrote.

Massaro has one daughter, Alexa, born in 2000. She posted a tribute to her late mother on Instagram upon news of her passing. "I wish I could have gotten more recent pictures," she wrote alongside a snapshot. "I love you Mommy I want to wake up in your arms more than anything I want to give u a big hug please come back this can't be real."
