Did Prince George accidentally reveal the royal baby's name months ago?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they have named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on Wednesday, following their first photographs as a family of three.

And while the world has waited with anticipation about what the newborn will be called since Monday, it seems that one member of the Royal Family may have given it away months ago.

In January, The Sun reported that Prince George told a dog walker that his name is Archie, when he was out with his grandmother Carole Middleton and sister Princess Charlotte in Berkshire.

The woman reportedly said at the time: "I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn't, but George started stroking my dog. Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it.

"To my astonishment he said 'I'm called Archie' with a big smile on his face. I don't know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it's lovely."

Could the young prince have overheard his Uncle Harry and Auntie Meghan discussing baby names? Who knows, but we'd like to think so.

Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, have surprised everyone with their choice of name. According to the bookmakers, Alexander, Albert, Arthur and James were among the frontrunners for the little boy.

The duke and duchess have chosen not to give their son a courtesy title at this time - they could have used Harry's subsidiary, the Earl of Dumbarton. Therefore their newborn will be known as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

He was born at 05:26, weighing 7lb 3oz, on May 6, 2019.
