Coronation Street‘s Katie McGlynn has announced she is quitting the soap, making her the sixth actor to leave the long-running series since the beginning of 2019.

While McGlynn – whose Sinead Tinker first stepped foot on the cobbles back in 2013 – has yet to speak publicly about her upcoming departure, a source told The Sun: “Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear.

“She’s been central to a number of key storylines this last year or so and will need replacing urgently.”

McGlynn’s decision won’t come as a shock to hardcore Corrie fans. Back in January, the 25-year-old admitted that it was “up in the air” whether she’d stay on after her contract officially ended later this year.

Last year, the fictional Tinker was diagnosed with cervical cancer after she learned that she was expecting a baby with husband Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard). In January, she received the tragic news that her condition had worsened and that she would need to begin radiotherapy immediately, following an emergency Caesarean.

A couple of weeks ago, Tinker and Osborne christened their new baby son, Bertie.

McGlynn is the latest in a long line of actors who have walked away from the soap in recent months. Just yesterday (1 May), Faye Brookes, who has played Kate Connor since 2015, said: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities.

“I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new.”

Connor is best known for her onscreen romance with Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), who died in the Underworld roof collapse on the pair’s planned wedding day back in March.

Others who have announced they are leaving include Tristan Gemmill who plays Robert Preston, Connie Hyde, who plays Sally Webster’s sister Gina Seddon and Kym Marsh, who has played Michelle Connor for 13 years.
