The Birmingham City fan who was sent to prison for punching Aston Villa's Jack Grealish has been released, describing his incarceration as 'the best month of my life.'

Paul Mitchell - who was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison last month for the attack during the Second City derby - was released from prison after serving just four weeks of his term.

"I'm out of prison. I was released on Monday. Of course, I'm glad to be out," said Mitchell in quotes carried by Birmingham Live.

"It was the best month of my life. It was hard being away from my family but everything was good."

When questioned about his attack on Villa captain Grealish, he said: "I'm not prepared to discuss that. I'm not apologising for nothing."

Grealish was knocked to the ground by Mitchell's punch in the 10th minute of the match on March 10 before going on to score Villa's winning goal in the second half.

Mitchell hit with a lifetime ban by Birmingham City, as well as a 10-year ban from attending any football match.
