'Celebrity Bake Off': Greg Wise stuns with hidden baking talents while Caroline Flack has viewers crying with laughter
The Great Celebrity Bake Off has saved its best contestant until last, with a baker so good he could have taken part in the main series.
Actor Greg Wise was such an obvious winner from the moment he entered the tent and announced he’d made his own jam with fruit from his garden that the contest may as well have been called off then and there.
But at the other end of the scale, TV presenter Caroline Flack had such a kitchen nightmare that her biscuit self-portrait left viewers crying with laughter.

Usually, all four celebrity bakers make a series of disastrous creations before one stumbles towards a win with something slightly more edible than their rivals’ offerings, but in the final episode of the series we saw a genuine baking talent emerge.

Judge Paul Hollywood told Wise in the Showstopper: “You don’t bake much? You should, because you’ve got a real talent for food obviously, and that is exceptional.”

Wise impressed with a nut cake embellished with homemade jam in the Signature, a winning Technical where the bakers were tasked with making choux pastry swans, and a stacked biscuit model of himself in the Showstopper that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the normal series of Bake Off.

However, Wise’s talents were emphasised by him going up against novices Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Caroline Flack and Nicola Adams.

Guru-Murthy and Adams managed some delicious but messy-looking treats, although Guru-Murthy’s efforts weren’t helped by presenter Sandi Toksvig, who tried to help him turn his Signature Bake and ended up breaking the cake into crumbs.

Flack struggled with everything from remembering to put ingredients in her cake to keeping the mixing bowl from flying across the room.
Her biscuit self-portrait was a sight to behold and will possibly be even more memorable than Wise’s, but for all the wrong reasons.

Despite her lack of baking talent, Flack has to be the only baker ever to have found time to do her hair and make-up in the tent.

The episode also included an emotional plea from Davina McCall to remember the cause that it was in aid of – Stand Up To Cancer – with a sobering reminder of the serious side behind the popular show.
Wise joins the ranks of Russell Brand, Michelle Keegan, Jess Phillips and Joe Wilkinson as the champions of the 2019 contest.
