Bizarre exoplanet is coated in burning ice

Gliese 436b has flabbergasted scientists since it was first discovered in 2004.

Despite surface temperatures that can reach 800 degrees Fahrenheit, the world is still covered in ice.

This is because Gliese 436b's gravity is so powerful that it keeps its ice crushed down into a solid form even as it should be melting, boiling and turning to steam.

Gliese 436b is one of the smallest exoplanets and has a mass and radius very close to those of Neptune.
