Wes Nelson became the first celebrity to score a 10 in this series of Dancing on Ice – just in time to put him through to the semi-final, although many viewers were more interested in whether or not he kissed his partner during the routine.

The former Love Island contestant and his pro partner, last year’s champion Vanessa Bauer, picked up 10s from both head judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in the first routine to get top scores this season, a Pirates of the Caribbean themed number.

If you look really carefully, you might even see Nelson and Bauer kiss during that routine – although it’s impossible to tell from the camera angle, some viewers were sure they’d seen it happen.

A few weeks back, Nelson broke up with his Love Island co-star Megan Barton Hanson, blaming his tough training schedule, although she was reported to be jealous of his relationship with Bauer.

But the shock eliminees from the quarter-final were Melody Thornton and Alexander Demetriou, who had been one of the series’ strongest couples and even pulled off its first headbanger in an early round.

They lost out to Saara Aalto and Hamish Gaman in the skate off, meaning that next week’s semi-finalists will be Aalto, Nelson, James Jordan and Brian McFadden.

The Dancing on Ice quarter-final also included the series’ first group competition skate which continued the night’s fairly loose time travel theme with a gladiator routine.

It caused a few head-scratching moments though, as various celebrities let out some rather odd screams during their skate.

Jordan was crowned the king of the gladiator skate, followed by Nelson, Thornton, McFadden, and Aalto put in last place by the judges.

The stakes were high this week, so the celebrities had put in so much effort in training that quite a few of them suffered falls and accidents before Sunday night.

Thornton took a nasty tumble in the dress rehearsal and Jordan managed to drop his partner Alexandra Schauman on her head, but Nelson’s fall was so bad that he even had to change his routine to avoid making the same mistake on the live show.

Meanwhile, judge Jason Gardiner managed to weave in a few stealth put-downs to his critiques.

After McFadden’s Elvis-themed skate, he said: “I thought you captured the last days of Elvis brilliantly in that routine.”

Congratulations aren’t only in order for the semi-finalists, though – judge Ashley Banjo became a dad this week, and here he is with his lovely family.
