Rare gold coin found in old bureau desk

A gold coin from around 1365 has been found in a secret drawer of a bureau in Derbyshire and is now going up for auction.

The coin was found by Hansons Auctioneers furniture valuer Edward Rycroft while he was showing a friend around the piece of furniture he was cataloguing.

The bureau in which he discovered the piece of currency is worth just £100 to £150 but the guide price for the Raymond IV Prince of Orange Franc is far greater.

A pied (unusually thick) coin is normally worth between £1,200 and £1,800 but experts think it could sell for as a much as £3,000.
