Emiliano Sala: French club Nantes 'demand transfer fee' from Cardiff

The former club of Emiliano Sala are demanding his transfer fee after the striker’s tragic disappearance, according to reports.

Nantes, who play in France’s top division, sold Sala to Premier League strugglers Cardiff in January for a fee reported to be £15million – although the fee is reported to be spread out over three years.

But the Bluebirds’ club-record signing was on the plane which went missing over the English Channel on January 21, alongside pilot Dave Ibbotson.

And BBC Wales are reporting the Ligue 1 club are demanding the payment for the 28-year-old Argentine forward after the first scheduled instalment was withheld.

The outlet reports Nantes will consider legal action if they are not paid ‘within 10 days’, although Cardiff are said to be keen to clarify ‘all the facts’ before honouring the deal.

The striker and pilot were on board the Piper Malibu N264DB aircraft which went missing more than two weeks ago between Nantes and Cardiff.

A recovery crew eventually found the aircraft in the ocean, with a body said to be visible in the wreckage.
