The Big Mac is, arguably, the most famous hamburger in the world. Now, for the first time in 50 years, the fast food chain is changing its signature recipe to include a new ingredient: bacon.

Created in 1968, the classic Big Mac contains two beef patties, a “special” burger sauce, iceberg lettuce, American cheese, gherkins and onions.

The new, limited-edition variant will contain all of the above, with the extra addition of salty bacon rashers.

Some burger fans are already embracing the new recipe with open arms.

Meanwhile, some Big Mac purists are slamming the company’s decision on Twitter.

For those not so convinced by the brand’s decision, fear not, as McDonald’s assures its customers the classic variety will be available alongside the limited edition version.

McDonald’s is also bringing back its “Grand” and “Jr.” sized Big Macs, complete with the extra bacon. Launched for a limited period during January 2018, the Grand Big Mac and Mac. Jr. are bigger and smaller (with one less patty) versions of the classic burger size.

While McDonald’s, a fast food chain, might widely be considered unhealthy, research published in the British Medical Journal last year found eating there may be healthier than dining at Nando’s and other sit-down restaurant chains.

Meanwhile, one man actually managed to lose a stone after eating McDonald’s for 30 days.
