Kylie Jenner’s record of having the most liked Instagram post of all time has been lost to a very unlikely contender.

Up until this weekend, 21-year-old Jenner had the most popular photo of all time on the Facebook-owned social media site, with her February 2018 post, announcing the name of her daughter (as Stormi Webster), earning over 18 million likes.

But now Jenner has lost out to a photo of an egg which, as of Monday, has over 25.5 million likes. The egg account, ‘World_record_egg’ posted a single shot of an egg with the caption:

‘Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.’

‘Egg Gang’ launched the challenge on January 4, and by January 13 had eclipsed Jenner’s most popular post.

Jenner has responded to being outshined by the egg with a syndicated Snapchat post on Instagram, which shows her smashing an egg onto the road.

Titled: ‘Kylie Jenner when she see’s the world Egg Account’ she says in the video: ‘Alright guys. First let’s feel the ground.’

‘It is really hot OK!’ she says as she cracks it open onto the ground and it appears to be attempting to fry it.

Captioned as ‘Take that little egg’ the 21-year-old reality star at least seems to see the funny side of the rather bizarre situation.

Take that little egg

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on Jan 13, 2019 at 6:04pm PST

Buzzfeed reached out to “world_record_egg”. The account user refused to do a phone interview but revealed that the account was being run by a British chicken called Henrietta. The user claims to have become bored after giving up on ‘Dry January’ and set up the egg account while home alone one Friday night.

The Instagram user told Buzzfeed: ‘the power of the egg is strong’ and as for Jenner: ‘It was nothing personal.’

The post went viral after the account user tagged major digital media players in the post, including LADBible, Buzzfeed and also The Ellen Show and American late night presenter Jimmy Fallon.
