Piers Morgan throws up Greggs vegan sausage roll live on air

Piers Morgan has taken his battle against the Greggs vegan sausage roll one step further by throwing it up live on air.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has railed against the bakery’s contribution to vegan campaign Veganuary, which encourages people to follow a plant-based diet in January, with harsh Twitter criticism of their meat-free bake.

Greggs decided that Morgan may need to taste their new treat for himself to understand its brilliance, so they sent one in for him to taste test on the morning show.

But perhaps it was too early in the day for Morgan to expand his taste horizons, as he gagged on the sausage roll, complaining: “They stink…urgh, God!”

He then spat it back up into a bin and said: “Why would anyone eat this.”

When the product first launched, Morgan had tweeted: “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.”

Greggs took the criticism on the chin, tweeting back: “Oh hello Piers, we’ve been expecting you.”

The £1 delicacy replaces the bakery’s traditional pork sausage filling with Quorn meat substitute and will be available in 950 Greggs stores.

It was launched following calls from animal welfare organisation PETA to provide a vegan alternative to the best-selling item, with a petition signed by 20,000 people.

Greggs chief executive Roger Whiteside said: “We have been trying to develop a vegan version of our sausage roll for some time now.

“It has not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary.”

However, Morgan remained unimpressed, telling Good Morning Britain viewers: “There are not three-and-a-half million vegans in this country. Think about it, when did you last see one?

“They all went down to Greggs to buy their vegan sausage roll.

“Because it’s a fad, like being gender fluid.”
