Yellow weather warning of up to 75mph gale force winds

Gale force winds are set to bring misery to parts of Britain.

A Met Office yellow weather warning has been issued for Scotland meaning that "very strong winds" are expected to hit on Monday and Tuesday.

The rest of the UK will remain largely cloudy, with some patchy rain in the north.

The Met Office suggests that gusts of up to 75mph are expected and it could bring possible travel disruption.

The warning reads: "Very strong winds are expected to affect northern and parts of eastern Scotland on Monday and Monday night.

"Gusts of 65 to 75 mph are likely, particularly in the far north and northeast, before winds gradually ease from the west during Tuesday."

It means that some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, some bus and train services will probably be hit with journeys taking longer.

There could be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and there is also the risk of some loss of power especially across Scotland.

Some coastal and seafront routes could also see large waves of seaspray.

It is also set to feel colder after a Sunday evening of cloudy skies for most with patchy rain in the north.

A chill could see temperatures of around -2C or -3C in Scotland on Tuesday morning while northern England, Wales and the central area will be just above OC.

There could also be some freezing fog as Britain heads into Wednesday.

It could be a cold Wednesday morning with temperatures of -3 or -4C in Scotland, around -3C in places such as Blackpool, Manchester and the Lake District while Newcastle might manage 2C to 3C.
